What To Do In Newcastle Over The Festive Season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and, if you’re lucky enough to be living in Newcastle, there are so many things you can do to celebrate the season. We have put together a short guide to all the festive fun happening around the city to really get you into the Christmas spirit. Enjoy!

Hadrian’s Tipi

Throughout December, Stack

The weather may be cold, but some things are worth venturing out for – especially if they involve log fires and warm drinks. This December, make sure to visit festive pop-up Hadrian’s Tipi; the heated tent can be found in the centre of Stack Newcastle and features hot and cold Christmas drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and, not one, but two huge, crackling fires to keep you warm while you enjoy the music and the atmosphere. You can read more about the winter tipi here.

Ice Skating

Until 24 February, Life Science Centre

Put on your woolliest jumper and warmest gloves and take to the ice at the Life Science Centre. This ice rink is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and doesn’t require booking for groups of under 10. When you’re finished skating, why not check out The Polar Express Journey to the North Pole on the 4D Motion Ride and the winter night sky at the Planetarium? You can find out all about what’s on offer here.

Santa on the Rooftop

Until 24th December, Fenwick Newcastle

Many things about Christmas make you feel like a child again – and no one is too old to visit Santa Claus. This year, he can be found in a grotto on the top of Fenwick until Christmas Eve. When you arrive, you will be greeted by Santa’s elves who will take you to the top floor in Santa’s Express Elevator. You’ll be given a cosy coat in Santa’s Boot Room before heading to the roof where you will find some singing reindeer. After all this, you will finally meet Santa in his cabin – if you’ve been good, he’ll let you into his workshop where you can help the elves decorate biscuits and making snow. Finish up at Café Claus for a complimentary cup of hot chocolate (or mulled wine) and a gorgeous view out over Newcastle. Booking is essential and you can do that here.

New Year’s Eve 2018

31 December, 97 & Social

The fun doesn’t end after Christmas Day – New Year’s Eve is still to come. The stylish 97 & Social bar are throwing their annual NYE party in Jesmond and everyone is invited. The event starts at 6pm and will feature music and dancing with a live DJ, as well as free entry and a Happy Hour. If you would prefer to get outside and see some fireworks, Wylam Brewery will be putting on a festival at the Palace Of Art in, Exhibition Park. The event is called ‘The Whole Hogmanay III’ and will feature midnight fireworks, a fire pit, a whole hog roast, a gin palace and a great party music selection.

There are so many things to be doing in Newcastle over the festive season, so whatever you do – happy holidays!
