Shopping

During your time in Newcastle you will not be short of options when it comes to shopping. Your choice of shops range from small local markets in the Quayside featuring independent traders often found selling their handmade goods, to more international markets in the city centre. As well as markets you’ll also be well catered for when it comes to high street shops and big name brands.

If you choose to venture out of the city then you can experience the intu Eldon Square, one of the largest city centre shopping malls in Europe. Here you’ll find department stores, a huge array of high street brands and a cinema complete with IMAX theatres.

Sightseeing

There’s plenty for you to see and do during your time in Newcastle.

Within the city centre you can take a walk around the Quayside and see iconic attractions like the Millennium Bridge, the Tyne Bridge, Sage Gateshead and the BALTIC Arts Centre.

If you enjoy sport then you must pay a visit to St James’ Park stadium to watch the famous Newcastle United in action. Or if running is your thing then the Great North Run is held in Newcastle every year and is a great opportunity for you get involved either as a runner or a spectator.

For those wanting to venture outside of Newcastle, then you can experience the amazing sights that the North East of England has to offer. You can see the Angel of the North, Hadrian’s Wall and Alnwick Castle, all within a short journey of Newcastle. Those wishing to travel further afield can explore the sights of Scotland taking in the famous Highlands and picturesque cities.

Getting around

Getting from A to B in Newcastle is really easy with many different options available. As the campus is located right in central Newcastle you’ll find that almost everything you need is within a convenient walking distance.

Travelling around the city centre of Newcastle is even easier with the Quaylink bus service, offering reasonably priced, convenient travel to many of Newcastle’s must-see attractions. The city is also served by the Metro, which offers regular train travel to and from many areas surrounding Newcastle including Newcastle Airport (25 minutes) and Sunderland city centre (30 minutes).

Newcastle train station offers direct travel to many destinations all around the country. Destinations such as London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds can all be reached in a few hours by train, meaning you can explore the rest of the UK with ease.
