Newcastle is regularly voted the best student city – the city has won the award 5 times in the last 7 years. One in 6 residents are students which means that the city offers a lively student environment.
As a vibrant student city, there are plenty of choices for you when it comes to your free time. On-campus you can find outstanding sports facilities, places to eat and drink and our Students’ Union which forms a large part of university life with lots of different societies and clubs for you to join. You can find a full list of our current societies and clubs here.
Off-campus, the city has one of the UK’s largest city centre shopping complexes: Eldon Square, as well as a range of unique boutique stores and markets. Newcastle also has a range of galleries, such as the BALTIC, which are worth visiting if you’re looking for some inspiration.
The city also offers a great base from which to explore the North of the UK. Scotland is less than an hour away and you can get a direct train to Edinburgh from Newcastle station. Alternatively, you can even get a train to London, with fast trains taking 3 hours.
