Entry requirements

At Northumbria University, we recognise a range of Nigerian qualifications for entry on to our programmes.

Please see the details below for the current qualifications and the equivalencies we accept.

For entry to You will need Grade required English language requirement
International Foundation Programme WAEC (WASSCE) Sufficient grades in at least 6 subjects (minimum C6 including maths).
For extended degrees BBBCCC grades including: Maths and English.
Biology and Chemistry also needed for Applied Science courses
Students not progressing to Law: IELTS 5.0 with no single element below 4.0, or equivalent, from a UKVI Approved centre

Students progressing to Law: IELTS 5.5 with no single element below 4.0, or equivalent, from a UKVI Approved centre

NECO Sufficient grades in at least 6 subjects (minimum C4 including maths).
Pre-Masters Bachelor degree from a government recognised University Third class or 1.50 2 semester: IELTS 5.5 with no single element below 5.5, or equivalent
1 semester: IELTS 6.0 with no single element below 5.5, or equivalent
Post Higher HND 40%

Depending which pathway programme you choose to study at Northumbria University and your previous qualifications, you may be eligible for a bursary and/or scholarship.

Throughout the year our team travel to Nigeria for events and to meet with students.

For those looking to shop, the intu Eldon Square is one of the UK’s largest city centre shopping complexes and you’ll also be able to find a mix of designer and high street brands alongside quirky boutiques in the centre.

Our Students’ Union plays a large part in university life on campus, with a large range of clubs and societies that you can join, making new friends outside of your course. You can find a full list of our current societies here.

The Quayside also boasts numerous bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
