As one of the UK’s top student cities, Newcastle offers a vibrant and lively location, whether you are on-campus or exploring the city and the surrounding areas.

On-campus

Our Students’ Union plays a large part in university life on campus, with a large range of clubs and societies that you can join, making new friends outside of your course. You can find a full list of our current societies here.

You’ll also find numerous places to eat and drink on-campus for when you have a break between classes.

For those in to sport, we have invested significantly to ensure that you have access to our excellent sporting facilities.

Off-campus

Newcastle is full of things to do while you’re here.

In the city centre, you’ll find lots to do, from shopping at the intu Eldon Square (one of the UK’s largest city centre shopping complexes), or in some of the many boutiques, to visiting the Quayside with its many restaurants.

If you want to explore further afield, only a short train or bus journey will take you to preserved sections of the world-famous Hadrian’s Wall, set in beautiful countryside dotted with castles and stately homes.

Head further north and you’ll find Kielder Water and Forest Park, which includes the biggest man-made lake in northern Europe and the largest working forest in England.

Places to eat

Newcastle has lots of options of places to eat, with restaurants of almost every different cuisine to sample. For those students who are looking for places serving halal food, you can check a list online here.

Newcastle has an airport operating international and domestic flights to/from cities including London, Birmingham, Dubai and Amsterdam. From the airport, you can take a taxi (about 20 minutes) or the Green Line Metro to South Hylton and then walk (the total journey will take about 30 minutes). Alternatively, Northumbria University also operates a meet and greet service at the airport – find out more here.

The city is also on a mainline train route with fast trains from London taking approximately 3 hours.

You can find out more about travelling to the campus here.
