Entry requirements

At Northumbria University we recognise a number of international qualifications held by Bahraini students applying for our programmes.

Please see the details below for the current qualifications and the equivalencies we accept.

International Foundation Programme Tawjahiya/High School Diploma 60% or above Students not progressing to Law: IELTS 5.0 with no single element below 4.0, or equivalent, from a UKVI Approved centre

Students progressing to Law: IELTS 5.5 with no single element below 4.0, or equivalent, from a UKVI Approved centre

Graduate Diploma Bachelor Degree (4 Years) GPA of 2.0/4.0 IELTS 5.5 with no single element below 5.5, or equivalent
Graduate Certificate Bachelor Degree (4 Years) GPA of 2.0/4.0 IELTS 6.5 with no single element below 5.5, or equivalent

Depending which pathway programme you choose to study at Northumbria University and your previous qualifications, you may be eligible for a bursary and/or scholarship.

Throughout the year our team travel to Bahrain for events and to meet with students.

As a vibrant student city, there are plenty of choices for you when it comes to your free time. On-campus you can find outstanding sports facilities, places to eat and drink and our Students’ Union which forms a large part of university life with lots of different societies and clubs for you to join. Off-campus, the city has one of the UK’s largest city centre shopping complexes: Eldon Square, as well as a range of unique boutique stores and markets. Newcastle also has a range of galleries, such as the BALTIC, which are worth visiting if you’re looking for some inspiration.

The city also offers a great base from which to explore the North of the UK. Scotland is less than an hour away and you can get a direct train to Edinburgh from Newcastle station. Alternatively, you can even get a train to London, with fast trains taking 3 hours.

Places to eat

Whatever your taste, Newcastle has lots of options of places to eat, with restaurants of many different cuisines to sample. Many of the restaurants in Newcastle and Gateshead serve halal food, you can check a list online here.

Places of worship

At Northumbria University, we provide spiritual and pastoral support to students of all faiths and beliefs. There are also regular trips and activities organised to help you meet new friends.

On-campus, we have a Peace Room, a Quiet Room and a Muslim Prayer Facility. Speak to our Chaplains to find out how to register.
