Great Free Places to Study in Newcastle

When you are studying hard every day, it can be great to find a new place to spark some more inspiration or help you achieve a deeper level of concentration. Variety is the spice of life, so here are some great places to mix up where you work.

1. Newcastle Quayside

Newcastle Quayside is the perfect place for students to relax and get a breath of fresh air when inspiration and motivation to study is needed. Find a seat along the river to watch the world go by and get in a good few hours of studying in.

2. Quilliam Brother’s Teahouse

Always popular with students, Quilliam’s is a great place for a coffee and cake, but not many people know it has a cinema and downstairs seating area that is perfect for doing some heavy revision. Plus, it’s just across the road from the Robinson Library which is open to Northumbria students, meaning if you need to pick up another book, it will only take a moment.

3. The Cluny

The Cluny is best known for putting on gigs, but it also has a fantastic outdoor seating area and free Wi-Fi, making it perfect for studying. Like Ouseburn Bank, it is close to City Campus East and lots of Northumbria student accommodation, making it a really convenient place to work.

4. Tynemouth Beach and Whitley Bay

What is more calming than the sound of waves on a beach? Harness that soothing energy and turn it into food for the brain at Tynemouth Beach or Whitley Bay. All you need is a blanket, a snack and your books to guarantee a few hours of great study.

5. The BALTIC

If you like a little background buzz when you are studying, head to the café under the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, just across the Millennium Bridge into Gateshead. The café is large, comfortable and not too busy, but with enough going on to feel productive. If you need a break, just wander upstairs into the free exhibitions to see some world-class art.

6. Sky Apple Café

If you are living around Heaton and Chillingham Road, great choice! This is a nice part of town, with a Middle Eastern population, that is great for international and local students alike. You also get to use local gem Sky Apple Café. This is the best place to go over your notes on the weekend, with friendly staff, great food and a happy, atmosphere.
