Great Free Places to Study in Newcastle

Want a break from your bedroom and the library? There are so many places in Newcastle where you can study for free and have a little change of scene at the same time. Here are some great spots to mix up your study schedule.

  • Newcastle Quayside

    Newcastle Gateshead’s Quayside offers fantastic views of the city, including Tyne Bridge and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. If you want to get a breath of fresh air and have some reading to get done, why not find a seat along the river and do it there? You may want to wait until summer when the weather is warmer to try this option, until then perhaps try The Quay Ingredient, a trendy café on the quayside.

  • Quilliam Brother’s Teahouse

    Always popular with students, Quilliam’s is a great place for a coffee and cake, but not many people know it also has a cinema and downstairs seating area that is perfect for a revision session. Plus, it’s just across the road from the Robinson Library, which is open to Northumbria students, making it easy to pick up any additional study materials

  • Camber Coffee

    Claremont Buildings, 1 Eldon Place, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7RD
    This hidden gem is located above Start Bicycles in Grainger Town and sells excellent coffee and healthy, vegan snacks to get your brain into gear. They have free Wi-Fi, comfy seating and views out over the streets of Newcastle – the ideal secret study location.

  • Tynemouth Beach and Whitley Bay

    Another one for summer because, after all, what is more calming than the sound of waves on a beach? Harness that soothing energy and turn it into food for the brain at Tynemouth Beach or Whitley Bay. All you need is a blanket, a snack and your books to guarantee a few hours of great study.

  • BALTIC Kitchen

    The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, South Shore Road, Gateshead NE8 3BA
    If you like a little background buzz when you are studying, head to the café under the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, just across the Millennium Bridge into Gateshead. The café is large, comfortable and not too busy, but with enough going on to feel productive. If you need a break, just wander upstairs into the free exhibitions to see some world-class art.

  • Flat Caps Coffee

    A café with a difference, this open plan independent space is practically designed for studying. High ceilings, a mixture of comfy chairs and upright desks and a constant supply of caffeine and fresh food. This is revision heaven.
