Programme Leader: International Foundation Programme
Mark did the CELTA and DELTA and concentrated on teaching ESOL and English for Academic Purposes, both in North Tyneside FE colleges and at Northumbria University.
I went through 13 thorough years of German school education. After dipping into commercial banking, I realised that languages are more interesting than mortgages and enrolled on a double MA in English Studies and Slavonic Studies at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. My language studies abroad led me to Novosibirsk (Russia) and Newcastle, to which I returned in 1995.
I graduated from Durham University with an MA (research by thesis) in Russian on the works of the Strugatsky Brothers in 2005. During my time of study I started teaching German language and developed my own language programs and an interest in TEFL. I subsequently did the CELTA and DELTA and concentrated on teaching ESOL and English for Academic Purposes, both in North Tyneside FE colleges and at Northumbria University.
I teach reading and text analysis, academic writing, grammar, and most other academic English language skills on our pre-sessional programmes and on the International Foundation Programme.
I am also responsible for developing digital technologies for the classroom, including language-learning software.
I am one of the two health and safety reps in the Department of Languages and a Fire Marshall.
I have been teaching pre-sessional English at Northumbria University since January 2003. I have led and taught on the pre-sessional programme for undergraduates (ESF1) and short courses for European Trade Unionists.
I co-directed the English Language Centre Summer Schools from 2006 to 2008.
Since 2006 I have been the programme leader for the International Foundation Programme.
